February is Financial Aid Awareness Month (FAAM) as proclaimed by Governor Bobby Jindal!  The Louisiana Education Loan Authority (Lela) has launched its 11th annual statewide financial aid awareness campaign to inform college bound students and their parents that financial assistance is available and to apply early.  In addition to reminding students of the immediate need to complete their Free Application to FAFSA, we encourage Louisiana high school seniors to participate in Lela's "Flat Pete and Nate Photo Essay Contest" for scholarship opportunities totaling $10,000.00!!Detailed guidelines can be found at:  www.GoFAAM.com.

The 2012 LSU Spring Invitational Program is March 28 - 30.  Invitations to the program will be emailed to eligible students during the last week of January.  Once again this year, attendance at Spring Invitational is limited to 1700 seniors.

SELECTIVE SERVICE

Males age 17 years and 3 months can register for Selective Service. You do not have to wait until you are 18 years old. To register log on to www.sss.gov. All senior males must register and have the Selective Service number on file with any college in order for college applications to be complete.

ATHLETES

All athletes with the intention to play sports in college need to register with the NCAA at www.eligibilitycenter.org. When you register please email Jennifer Gahagan in order for her to send your transcript. Athletes must send ACT scores directly from ACT the NCAA code is 9999.

 

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

 

louisiana Beta Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at Louisiana State University awards three Balanced Man Scholarships.  One person will receive a $1,000 scholarship and one will receive a $500 scholarship.  In addition to these two awards, The Alumni Leadership Award of $250 will be given to another applicant.

BigSun Scholarship 

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in.

The successful applicant will be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution or in the community..

Louisiana Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarship Program

Enter for a chance to win a $1500 scholarship

Applications are due no later than Friday, February 29, 2012

Requirements: Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better for four years of high school

                           Must graduate in spring 2012

Must attend accredited college or university in Louisiana during the fall and spring semesters immediately following graduation.

Must pursue a curriculum in agriculture, vocational agriculture, agribusiness, agriscience, home economics, or other curriculum directly benefiting the agricultural sector of LA.

Parents must be a member of Farm Bureau Federation.

If a scholarship is won, a GPA of 2.5 or better during the first semester of college is required, along with maintaining a major course of study in agriculture for the second semester in order to receive the second half of the scholarship award.
